About Us
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
HEAL is a Somalia-based non-profit and non-governmental organization that was established in 2017, with a vision to mitigate the suffering of communities affected by conflict and disasters.

Our Story
Somalia is confronted by a deadly combination of crises, ranging from prolonged drought, disease outbreaks, increased malnutrition, conflict, and displacement.

When armed conflict breaks out or natural disasters strike, entire communities are affected, disrupting their day-to-day lives and long-term development prospects. Humanitarian aid should be designed to save lives and alleviate suffering during and in the immediate aftermath of emergencies.

Whereas development aid responds to ongoing structural issues, particularly systemic poverty, that may hinder economic, institutional, and social development in any given society, and assists in building capacity to ensure resilient communities and sustainable livelihoods.

Both our humanitarian and development programs are related, and our programs naturally overlap between humanitarian and development components due to the consistent nature of crises in Somalia.
What We Do
In collaboration with local partners, communities, and other key actors, we link relief to rehabilitation, development, and peacebuilding.
Relief
Our humanitarian relief programs and initiatives aim to deliver urgent life-saving aid to marginalized and disadvantaged populations in Somalia to reduce immediate suffering during a crisis. We offer life-saving assistance, such as emergency shelter, water, food, and hygienic products, to ensure people are safe and properly protected.
Furthermore, we remain engaged in the post-crisis period, assisting people in returning to their homes. There, we work to strengthen their ability to anticipate, adapt, and respond to future disasters.
Development
While our development post-crisis programs are designed to restore livelihoods by working alongside community members to restore job opportunities, build critical infrastructure, and develop education programs.
Our programs:
- Respond to emergencies with life-saving food, water, medicine, hygiene, and shelter.
- Sustain families with meals, water wells, sanitation, and healthcare.
- Empower communities to thrive with life-enriching programs to rise above poverty and improve their lives.
